Safeway Employees Rally for Breast Cancer Awareness

Afghan handmade by employees and friends will be given away to a lucky recipient to who makes a donation to the cause.

Staff and friends at the downtown Safeway store in Novato have created an afghan quilt in honor of a co-worker's wife who has been fighting breast cancer, and anyone who makes a donation at the store will be entered into a drawing to keep the special gift.

Employee Lois Wilson said the crew at the Safeway in the Novato Fair Shopping Center made the effort on behalf of Heidi Lusk, wife of employee Terry Lusk. Each October, Safeway launches a fundraising drive in support of breast cancer awareness, education and research.

"This is a great way to show your support and make this fundraising effort more personal to our community," Wilson said. "This was made with love."
