Raley's Employees Strike Over Proposed Changes to Overtime Pay, Benefits

Picket includes about 7,000 employees around state, including at Petaluma store

Raley’s employees walked off the job Sunday morning after failed negotiations over health and overtime benefits over the past year.

The strike was announced on the UFCW 8-Golden State website Saturday night and includes some 7,000 employees at Raley’s and Nob Hill stores in Northern and Central California, including in Petaluma.

Raley’s management has recently proposed a series of changes to contracts including a permanent elimination of wage premiums for working nights, Sundays and holidays, and creating two distinct classes of workers — those hired after the next contract is ratified and those hired before.

“For 15 months Raley’s has tried to dictate a laundry list of takeaways including devastating members’ and retirees’ health and welfare plan and nothing has changed,” wrote union president Jacques Loveall.

Welcome to the real world, Pam. Most people don't get medical after they retire...unless you work for the govt or a greedy union, like the auto workers, who bankrupted their industry and then cost the taxpayers 15 Billion to get bailed out. Do you want the taxpayers to bail out Raleys next? How about you mother save money instead of buying a flat screen TV and luxury cars.

I F, I totally agree.....BUT...this person's mom signed up for something and it was taken away. And, unless you know her, you don't know what kind of car she drives or what kind of TV she watches so, don't make yourself sound like an idiot. Unions have a way of destroying things, disenfranchising their members and gobbling up dollars. But, if someone signs up for a deal, then it should be fulfilled. Fair is fair.

Right. My mom drives a Mazda and does have money saved. In fact they are very thrifty, but when she had money put into something as an agreement to her wages she should get what she was promised. I think the Teel family are the ones with the luxury cars( and boats), wanting 4 billion dollars because 3 isn't enough. We are just asking for the company that we give our blood, sweat and tears to to purchase a medical benefit plan that we can afford at this point.

Union lovers voted him in. Now embrace your Obamacare. Obama will save you. What are you worried about?

Spend $20 at Raleys and get free 24 pack water, gold medal flour, and salad pack. No coupon required. I'd cross a picket line for that, no problem.
