Cytograft of Hamilton Landing makes progress on implanting blood vessels from donors.

A Novato company is leading the way toward a historic breakthrough with implanting blood vessels from human donor cells, accrording to a story on WebMD Health News.

sponsored the study that shows for the first time that blood vessels grown from donor cells can be implanted in human patients. Cytograft has worked on similar studies for years and was written up in the New York Times in 2007 when researchers grew blood vessels in a laboratory and implanted them to restore blood flow around a patient's damaged arteries and veins.

On June 20, Cytograft published an article about its research in the trade publication Endovascular Today.

Cytograft's goals, cited on its website, are to revolutionize cardiovascular medicine by developing cell-based therapies to repair and rebuild diseased tissues and organs without using synthetic biomaterials. Eventually the company would like to bring cost-effective cell-based therapies to patients.
