Dr. Insomniac's Voted No. 1 Coffeehouse in Novato

Cafe in old blacksmith shop gets the nod in our weekly Readers Choice survey.

, located in a building entered on the National Registry of Historic Places, has been voted as the No. 1 coffeehouse in town by Novato Patch readers.

Why not have a lowfat mocha and scufffin (the shop's scone-muffin hybrid) to celebrate?

The winner of this week's Readers Choice survey — which is undergoing a name change from Dr. Insomnia's to Dr. Insomniac's — is a quaint shop opened since 1994 on Old Town's main drag, Grant Avenue. The building was constructed at Grant and Reichert avenues in 1893 as a blacksmith shop.

The motto at Dr. Insomniac's? "Caffeinate and dominate." Love that.

at Pacheco Plaza also received strong support in the Readers Choice survey. Are you glad that two locally owned, noncorporate shops got the most votes?

Patch's Readers Choice contest winners are determined by results of the weekly poll and reviews left on a business' Patch listing. Why do the ratings matter more when determining the winner? The poll goes away after a few days, but the positive reviews and ratings stay forever with your favorite business and really help them out.

Thanks to all who voted and added comments not only to the Readers Choice story but to the listings for each location. Watch for our next contest starting on Monday.
