Downtown Peet's Coffee to Move by Winter

Grant & Seventh location to close; new location will be at building being constructed on Redwood Boulevard next door to McDonald's.

By fall, loyal Peet's Coffee & Teas patrons will have to get used to a new caffeine routine.

Peet's confirmed Monday that it is and moving into a new complex being built at , site of the old Denny's/Mills Restaurant building that was .

Thad Logan of the commercial real estate company RetailWest and Cheryl Magat of Peet's confirmed that a lease has been signed and that the Peet's location at the corner of Grant Avenue and Seventh Street will be closed.

"Construction is coming along," Logan said of 7370 Redwood, just north of a and just south of a restaurant. "We're really excited about the progress, partly because we have great folks working on the project."

Logan said his company expects to deliver space to tenants by late November or early December and then see them open by the first quarter of 2013.

The new complex, which has yet to be given a name, was designed by Crome Architects and will offer 8,159 square feet of retail space and 28 parking stalls. The new building will be where the old parking area used to be, and the new parking will be where the torn-down restaurant used to be.

Peet's will occupy 1,800 square feet and will be on the side of the building opposite McDonald's, facing south and west, Logan said. The largest space, 3,880 square feet, will be on the east side of the building, closer to the and further from Redwood Boulevard. The third spot, 2,335 square feet, will be on the northwest corner, right along Redwood Boulevard and facing McDonald's.

Leases have not been signed for the other locations, Logan said, but his company is seeking a non-food retail or financial business for the biggest vacancy and a lunch/dinner restaurant for the other one.

No word yet on what will happen to the current Peet's location at the Downtown Novato Shopping Center.
