DNBA Produces Video to Promote Downtown Business

The Downtown Novato Business Association's new video features Novato council members urging residents to support local shops and keep their tax dollars within the city limits.

The Downtown Novato Business Association has created a professionally produced video that profiles five individual businesses while it promotes shopping locally.

DNBA president, Randy Stemmer, said that the video is a new tactic. "We want to reach out and directly help our members," Stemmer said.

In the past the organization has been known for hosting broader events like the Spring Easter Egg Hunt and Nostalgia Days; targeting specific businesses is a change.

"Events are great," Stemmer said. "But this video directly promotes a business and puts their name in the media.

For this first video, DNBA members businesses names were drawn at random, from those present at the membership meeting, in five industry categories -- health, finance, business services, retail and food service.

The businesses profiled include , , , and .  Each businees was paired with a Novato city council member who provided the on-camera talent and narration in the video, professionally produced by Darrell Holdaway, a local producer/editor.

"The businesses were estatic," Stemmer said of the finished product. "It was really well received.

"If a business was to produce a commercial on its own, it would be a couple of thousand dollars -- and a small business just can't afford that," Stemmer said.

Stemmer said that the DNBA hopes to produce more of the video profiles -- again from names drawn at random at the organization's monthly meetings.

"It's really going to encourage our membership to attend meetings," he said.
