Kleiman Broadcast Studio Opens at Buck Institute

The Buck Institute for Research on Aging now has a full-fledged broadcast studio thanks to the generosity of Buck Board of Trustee Harlan Kleiman, who funded  the construction and the equipping of the new facility. Ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the Kleiman Studio took place on Dec. 5.

“I am delighted to support the Institute’s efforts to connect with a larger audience,” said Kleiman. “The Buck has a very important story to tell. Buck scientists have an authoritative voice that needs to be included in the national and international conversation about age research and the future of healthcare. I am excited to help facilitate that."

The Kleiman Studio features state-of-the art cameras, lighting, editing and audio equipment along with a separate control room with switcher. The space will be used for live television interviews as well as special scientific presentations and video production. The studio equipment will also be utilized in the Drexler Auditorium, the site of many Buck Institute public events and scientific seminars.

Kennedy, PhD, Buck Institute President and CEO.  “Harlan’s support will help raise the profile of the Institute, our scientists and our mission to extend the healthy years of life. We are grateful for his gift and for his ongoing advocacy on our behalf.”

In addition to being on the Buck Institute Board of Trustees, Kleiman is also a member of the Buck Advisory Council, a distinguished group of men and women from the United States and around the world dedicated to helping advance the Buck Institute’s scientific and educational mission. Kleiman is CEO of Shoreline Pacific, LLC, a San Francisco investment bank. Since its founding 13 years ago, Shoreline Pacific has raised over $3 billion for more than 85 companies principally involved in natural resources, alternative energy technologies, biotech, medical diagnostics, telecommunications, the Internet and more.

For the 20 years prior to Shoreline Pacific, Mr. Kleiman designed and implemented business and financing strategies for new communication technologies, principally pay television and home video. He founded The Kleiman Company in 1979, one of the leading packagers of pay-television programming in the U.S.
