Weekend Planner for April 15-17

Are you looking for something nearby to do this weekend? Check out some of the cool things on the Novato Patch Events Calendar and see if there's something for you.

Friday:

Jackie Greene has been hailed as the new boy wonder of the Americana/Roots Rock scene since he released his first Album in 2002. With a stream-of-consciousness vibe, many of Greene's songs reflect a certain spontaneity, traveling quickly from inspiration to album to fan.  Whether it's a soulful ballad or a ballsy rocker, you can count on breathtaking melody and poetic lyricism. Playing at the Palm Ballroom, 100 Yacht Club Dr., San Rafael with doors opening at 8 p.m.

Saturday:

Soroptimist International of Novato will be selling its famous llama beans again from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in front of at 1535 South Novato Blvd. in Novato. Last year, they sold out of their special fertilizer within two hours. What are llama beans? They are the natural output of llamas — in short, llama poop. It is one of the most desirable fertilizers available. It is organic, can be spread right on the garden without composting, has a compact pellet size (similar to deer droppings), and is virtually odor free (can be used indoors). This project is the ultimate in recycling — the bags are made by club members out of old sheets. Bags hold approximately 2 quarts and are priced at $4.99.

Sunday:

of Novato is launching a movie day! The first movie, "Playing for Change, Connecting the World through Music,"  will be shown this Sunday, at 2 p.m. "Playing for Change" is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite us as one human race. And with this truth firmly fixed in our minds, we set out to share it with the world. There will be an opportunity to discuss the movie after it is shown. (Donations are optional.) Playing at St. Francis Church, 957 5th St., Novato.
