Marin MOCA Kicks Off New Exhibit

Show pays tribute to music and dance world and features local artists

Artists with studios at Novato's Marin Contemporary Art Museum (MOCA) are always up to something interesting, whether it's a new series of paintings, ceramics works or mixed media.

A new exhibit launching next Saturday is no exception.

Called "Movement and Music," the show shines a spotlight on the world of music and dance and is put on by MOCA artist members Christie Stewart and Kathleen Lack.

The show includes mixed media pieces such as a sculpture of a ballerina using piano hammers, oil paintings of dancers and musicians and three-dimensional pieces, including from reclaimed materials.

The opening reception on Saturday, November 23, will include a live performance on the harp and three ballet students from the Marin Ballet. It starts at 5pm.

Lack is an award winning artist and teacher who has been teaching portrait and figure drawing classes at the Novato Arts Center for over 12 years. Stewart graduated with departmental honors and a degree in Fine Arts from Dominican College of California. She is especially drawn to three-dimensional designs and assemblage and uses discarded music instruments and old cameras in her work.

Show runs through January 12.
