Thursday-Sunday:

Presented by Marin Summer Theater, Songs for a New World is a series of songs connected by theme rather than narrative and heavily influenced by a broad range of musical influences. Jason Robert Brown, one of the brightest young composers, has said of his show, “It’s about one moment.  It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.” These are the stories and characters of today, the songs for a new world.

If you go: Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors and can be bought here. The show runs from Thursday through Sunday.  Thursday evening’s show is a ‘pay-what-you-will’ preview at 8 p.m. and limited to the first fifty ticket holders. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m. and Sunday’s matinee begins at 2 p.m. Performances are at , 15 San Marin Drive, in Novato.

Thursday through July:

A remote diner located in the Arizona desert is the setting for Robert E. Sherwood's “The Petrified Forest,” a poignant social tale of longing, disillusionment, class struggle and gunplay. Lofty idealism and corporate indifference are explored when a down-on-his luck writer, an idealistic waitress, a couple of wealthy tourists and other diners bare their souls and question the value of their lives after a notorious gangster arrives at the diner and takes everyone hostage. Playwright Robert E. Sherwood, one of the original members of the Algonquin Round Table, received Pulitzer Prize for Drama honors for three of his plays, including “Idiot’s Delight.” This is a Marin Actors Workshop production directed by Terry McGovern.
