It's not just no-cost, your child could earn $500 toward their college tuition, and ninth graders will earn life acience credits as well as community service hours through participation in Project ReGeneration, a free four-week summer youth camp in Marin. There are two sessions available: June 20-July 15, and July 19-Aug. 12. The program runs weekdays 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Kids have the opportunity to garner valuable life experience by working hard, seeing places in the North Bay they never knew existed and helping the environment. Download an application or visit Conservation Corps North Bay's website. After applying, please contact John Fragale at 415.454.4554 to schedule an interview.

Deals at Goodwill of Novato

Novato's Goodwill store is looking especially full and organized these days. It looks like now might be a good time to get next year's rain and snow gear. I noticed a darling pair of little girl lavender snow boots for $6. The record section was a hoot, too. Check out the Helen Reddy color-tinted album cover! My husband found a 78 rpm for his old Victrola for a buck.

Movie Night at Home

Check out FREE movies at the library or on Comcast. This week’s recommendation is for a rated-R movie night at home. It’s an Italian film called “The Sicilian Girl” from 2009. Inspired by the true story of a teenager who helped bring down the mafia in her village in the 1990s. It is the first time that a young woman from a Mafia family rebels and betrays the Mafia.

The story is as taut and compelling as any “Bourne” movie, but it’s real. I loved the actress who played the real-life heroine, and you’ll get to see real footage of her during the credits. It also provides a mini-travelogue of Sicily, which is certainly an inexpensive way to travel to Europe for a couple of hours.

The film is in Italian with subtitles and free on Comcast but not available at the library — yet.
