San Marin Drama presents Jane Eyre

The award winning San Marin Drama Department will present Charlotte Bronte’s fascinating story, Jane Eyre, adapted for the stage by Willis Hall,  on May 6,7,9, 13, 14, 16 at 7:30 pm.  Details of time and dates below.  This story filled with mystery, romance and suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat.   Published in 1847, under the pen name of Currer Bell, (women were not supposed to write books back then) Charlotte Bronte’s book was an instant success and continues to be.   Many versions of the book have been made into movies.   The latest Jane Eyre movie premiered in March 2011.  Unfortunately the book is no longer taught in most high schools.  San Marin Drama Teacher, Linda Kislingbury said, “It’s the book that gave me my lifelong love of reading.   I bought 18 copies of the book for my advanced drama class and many students have told me they can’t put it down.  I am donating the copies to the English department after the play.”

Students unanimously agreed to take on this classic gothic play set in Yorkshire, England in the 1840’s and have done extensive  research on this time period.    Kislingbury says, “Our stunning costumes rented from  ACT costumes in San Francisco are not to be missed.  Our 40 person double cast play also includes, San Marin English Teachers, Nick Busselman, Scott MacLeod, Denise Smith and Auto Shop teacher Mike Sousa along with seven girls from Hill and Sinaloa middle schools. Student Assistant directors,  Stephen Jun and Lindsey Campbell are learning the complexities of working on a play from another angle.  Mark your calendars now and don’t miss it.”
