San Marin High's 'Hiding in the Open'

's Drama Department chair Linda Kislingbury says her students' spring production, Hiding in the Open, is an "edge-of-your-seat play."

“I haven’t been so moved by a play in many years,” Kislingbury said.

Adapted for the stage in 2011, the new play by Kira Obolensky is based on Sabina Zimering’s memoir, Hiding in the Open. It is the true story of Sabina and her sister Helka, two Jewish sisters from Poland who assume false Catholic identities and work in Nazi hotel during World War II. They are constantly on the run and live in fear that their identities will be revealed.

This heartwarming story of courage, human kindness and the bonds of family show the courage of these teenage girls as they grow up during this time of great atrocities. Although, Sabina (now 89) could not come to the production, students had great insights into this difficult time from (one of the Hidden Children of Amsterdam during World War II).

The part of Sabina is double cast with Sarah Marthinsen and Rachel Smith. The part of Helka is double cast with Jessie Rose and Kyra Nilsen. Assistant Student Directors are Elliott Hanson and Dominique Giusti.
