A historically significant photography exhibition featuring the Black Panthers and Haight-Ashbury captured in stunning black-and-white photographs by Pirkle Jones and Ruth-Marion Baruch, noted documentary photographers and former Marin residents, "Black Power ~ Flower Power" comprises two significant bodies of photographic work: ‘Black Panthers 1968’ and ‘Haight-Ashbury, 1967.’

This is the first time these museum-quality collections have been exhibited together, and many for the first time in large formats.  ‘Black Panthers 1968’ is a definitive documentation of a movement that had wide repercussions on American social, political, and cultural life, and ‘Haight-Ashbury, 1967’ details the Summer of Love, a time that profoundly changed the fabric of the United States.

Pirkle Jones, a documentary photographer and colleague of Ansel Adams and Dorothea Lange, chronicled the people, politics, and landscapes of Northern California for more than 60 years. He collaborated with his wife, Ruth-Marion Baruch, and their work was exhibited around the U.S., including at the Museum of

Modern Art in New York City, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth. Ruth-Marion passed away in 1997; Pirkle died in 2009 – both were residents of Marin County.  For more information visit: http://www.pirklejones.com/
