Whiz Kids: Indian Valley 4-H Club

Group makes a Valentine's Day donation to the Novato Human Needs Center.

Each Wednesday, Novato Patch honors a Whiz Kid. Submit your own nominations for outstanding kids who showed kindness or leadership, became an Eagle Scout, aced a hard test, or led their team to victory.

For this week — our second week — we're recognizing the Indian Valley 4-H Club whose members raised money through a bake sale in conjunction with their One Warm Coat drive outside Harvest Market in December. The kids in the club decided as a group to give the $160 to the Novato Human Needs Center and a dozen of them showed up for the check ceremony on Feb. 11.

The Indian Valley 4-H Club is considering donating funds as an annual Valentine's gift for Novato Human Needs Center.

Great Deed: Turning one good idea (warm coat donation drive) into another (bake sale), combining those ideas into one event and brainstorming as a group what to do with the funds, and then doing it.

Key to Awesomeness: This club, which meets once a month, does extensive community service and turning the sales of sweets into cash for others is just one of them. Says Human Needs case manager Anna Rivera, "We have so many families in need in Novato ... every little bit helps."
