On Thursday, Novato resident Carmela Chandrasekera is holding a Sri Lankan dinner at the key center to raise money for the Water for People organization and Homeward Bound of Marin’s Oma Village housing project in Hamilton. Chandrasekera is cooking the dinner along with staff from Homeward Bound’s Fresh Starts Culinary Academy. Tickets are $50. On Thursday, October 17, Marin County marks the 24th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake with the Great California Shakeout at Marin General Hospital. Residents are invited to try out the 8.0 quake simulator in the Quake Village, get a free smoothie from Jamba Juice, buy an emergency kit at a discounted price and learn how to make your house earthquake ready.
