Tense Standoff at Dog Park: Chihuahua vs. Gopher

Lots of staring. Lots of twitching. Lots of fun to watch.

The standoff was as tense as they come. It teetered on sweet friendship one second, then veered toward lethal violence. Heart rates were off the charts.

One day last week, a friendly gopher was teasing a 1-year-old rat terrier/chihuahua mix named Pico at Dogbone Meadows dog park in Novato. A small group of dog owners watched the staredown in amusement. In the end, everyone won — no animals were hurt and there were a lot of smiles.

Here is the City's page for the dog park. Perhaps you can send them an email and ask what is being done about the gopher holes if anything and help prevent future injury. http://www.ci.novato.ca.us/index.aspx?page=714

Very fun, and I also find it ironic that the "pet emergency" ad shows up at bottom of this feed...

There will always be gophers in fields. They are an important part of the ecosystem. Would you rather have gopher traps in the holes that could REALLY hurt the dogs?

I have nothing against the gophers, just a little maintenance, like any park. Maybe we are the ones who should go?

I have nothing against the gophers, just a little maintenance, like any park. People are everywhere, the dogs have only this small fenced parcel. Thanks for the dog park link.
