Start a New Family Tradition on Thanksgiving

Your top choices for Thursday, Nov. 25.

— Run in the 10th Annual Marin County Turkey Trot or just show up to cheer on the runners as they traverse the varied terrain at the College of Marin's Indian Valley Campus. There are several racing events occurring at staggered starting times, so click here for more information. Twenty percent of the race registration proceeds benefit School Fuel, a nonprofit that supports public schools in Novato.

— For those not up for running, enjoy the beauty of Marin County Open Space. Rush Creek's Pinheiro Fire Road and Indian Valley's Fire Road are two level-terrain hikes for the whole family. Stroll around the Rush Creek  and observe the many birds that call this area home or saunter along the Indian Valley and view the expansive canopy of trees.

—  Finnegan's Marin will open at 4:30 p.m. Ladies, are you still hungry after dinner? Visit Finnegan's to order ladies' night food and drink specials from 4:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Hang around and do not miss Damir Stosic, an acoustic guitarist who will start strumming at 9 p.m.

—  Print origami turkeys or cut paper squares, in various colors, to create traditional origami cranes. This project is addictive and everyone will want to join the fun. String them together to save for future Thanksgivings or encourage guests to bring them home as a keepsake.

 —  Take a moment to gather the family together for photos. Who knows, you might be lucky enough to capture the smiles of your family and use the shot for a holiday card.
