Shivers and Frost for Novato, but No Snow

No sightings of skiers anywhere near Mount Burdell despite snowy forecasts.

So much for a winter wonderland, huh?

Forecasters got us all excited about snow this weekend on our hills. Nada. Just frost.

There were record cold temperatures all over the Bay Area. It got down to 21 overnight in Santa Rosa, the coldest mark since 1922, according to veteran meteorologist Mike Pechner. The National Weather Service does not provide numbers for Novato, but San Rafael’s low for Friday was 29. According to weather.com, the temperature in Novato today should be in the mid-40s.

The National Weather Service has a winter weather advisory in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday and still says snow can be expected at elevations over 1,000 feet — which includes the ridges that ring Novato. But the precipitation just isn’t there to provide the snow thus far.

Are you disappointed that there wasn’t any snow this morning?
