Despite years of research, cancer remains an epidemic in the United States and the rest of the developed world.
This year alone, an estimated 1.6 million Americans will be diagnosed and a third will die from the disease, according to the National Cancer Institute.
When it comes to breast cancer, 230,000 women will be diagnosed with the disease, although most will survive it with the help of chemotherapy and other treatments.
To raise awareness and funds for cancer research, Novato restaurant Las Guitarras is holding an event Saturday, with 20 percent of proceeds from 3pm to 10pm going to the To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation. The popular Mexican restaurant will also have a hairstylist starting 12pm who will give free haircuts to anyone willing to donate 8 inches or more of their hair the organization’s Wigs for Kids program.
Las Guitarras General Manager Lisa Garcia said she decided to host the fundraiser after both her mom and aunt were diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
The Saturday event will feature face painting and even serve up pink tacos and pink margaritas.
