Novato Patch Turns 2 ... Help Us Celebrate!

Here's an opportunity to share your thoughts and, if you feel compelled, to offer a pat on the back.

Can you believe it? Novato Patch is turning 2 years old.

Just out of diapers.

Many didn't think we'd make it this far. A strong argument could be made that Novato needed additional media coverage and a place for neighbors, often complete strangers, to have meaningful online conversations about hot local topics.

If you've enjoyed Novato Patch, come raise a coffee mug for us between 8-10 a.m. Nov. 16 at Dr. Insomniac's in downtown Novato. That night there might be another drop-in get-together at a local watering hole. Hope to see you one way or another.

Just for kicks, check out this video that was shot about a month before Novato Patch debuted.

Just as the town cryer was succeeded by the printed word, and the Pony Express by the telegraph, the logical evolution of the news is now the Patch. It wouldn't be as good as it is without the guidance of Brent, who brought his newspaper experience to this new way of not just getting the news out, but by including the readers to chime in, and has enabled the voice of the people to be heard. Congrats! Being chief of anything ages one in dog years, and you show it Brent, but every wrinkle or gray hair has a story, and all of them were worth it. Just in case I'm not the only one who feels this way- THIS HAS BEEN GOING AROUND!

I have a great idea! We all meet at Dr Insomniacs like you said, but when we leave, we swipe the tables and drop them off at Lu Sutton. (Tongue in cheek, going around)

Two years! Congratulations on a job well done. Now we want you to keep on doing it. Thank you.

Hah hah, Craig. Well, Mike Read has contributed a photo that has YOU in the background, so let's see if you've aged like I have. (Thanks for being there that day).
Brent Ainsworth (Editor) November 10, 2012 at 05:12 PM
Thanks, everybody. I feel like a hundred bucks! Hey, at least I'm about 30 pounds lighter now.

I'm new to Novato, and the Patch has been a wonderful "host" to me as I learn my new home. Thanks for all the hard work!

Brent, you & the Patch reporters are providing a great service to Novato by providing local news & views. I know how hard you work & how much of your life you dedicate to Patch but I also hope that you know that all this effort is much appreciated. Congratulations on the first two years & looking forward to many more.

Nice work, dude.
Al Dugan November 10, 2012 at 08:49 PM
Well done Brent. Will not be able to make your mug raising but wished you continued great success.

Great job Brent!! Since you are a one man show, I am continually amazed at your ability to cover all of the “breaking” stories as well as the day to day business of our town. The fact that you live in town and care about Novato as much as we do shows in every story your write. While I still subscribe to the IJ, by the time I read it all the stories are old because they have been on the Patch since they happened. Amazing job, keep it up.
Susan Wreden November 11, 2012 at 12:26 AM
Thank you Brent for doing such a great job. I love The Patch, and now my mom subscribes so she can see what's happening in Novato.

TWO YEARS?? How time flies!! Two years ago in our converstions I always said - but I still like to hold that newspaper - are you sure you're gonna do this? - HA!!! I hold that paper on occassion but I read NovatoPatch daily!! And thank you thank you, Brent, that you have made it easy for us to post our San Marin High School Music articles - so everyone learns of our events! Bravo, indeed!! ♥♥
Tina McMillan November 11, 2012 at 06:14 AM
Amazing job Brent. Thank you for providing the local news in a great format and giving us all a chance to contribute. I really appreciate all that you have done.
Sylvia Barry November 11, 2012 at 06:25 AM
Yep, Mr. Ainsworth! I remember when this all got started and that ribbon cutting! Fun to watch Novato Patch grow! Great Job! Brent, Edie and Family - it's not easy to have the husband or the dad disappear all the time to cover that hot story in town!
Beth Huizenga November 11, 2012 at 06:44 AM
I was just thinking about this anniversary, Brent, and our first meetings together. You were a wonderful mentor and cheerleader for me, and I got a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction writing for Patch. Best wishes for continued success!
Brent Ainsworth (Editor) November 11, 2012 at 06:14 PM
Hey, great to hear from you, Ana! Did you see yourself in the photos here?
Brent Ainsworth (Editor) November 11, 2012 at 06:15 PM
Wow, I didn't expect a single comment on this thread. Awesome support! Thanks so much.
Tracey Ruiz November 11, 2012 at 09:10 PM
Ditto on everything Beth said. Brent's been a great leader of the Patch team and his journalism experience and standards have made this a high-quality site for local news. Congrats!!
Brian Pearson November 11, 2012 at 09:44 PM
Brent: Through your leadership, Patch has become a focal point for news of Novato! Prior to this we had no daily input about local news and events pertaining to the Novato Area. ALSO, have certainly assisted many small non profits and community groups to be come recognised and helping them get the publicity necessary to build their groups! On behalf of myself personally and on behalf of the Friends of Dogbone Meadow group, Thank you for a job well done and for more great things from Patch in the future!! Brian Pearson

Brent's indomitable spirit and love for his hometown has made this site virtually unparalleled at Patch. Bravo, indeed.
Brent Ainsworth (Editor) November 16, 2012 at 01:09 AM
Wow, Jim, that's much appreciated from one of the journalists I respect most in this world.
Kevin Moore November 16, 2012 at 01:43 AM
I have enjoyed reading the both Novato Patch and San Rafael Patch. I find your stories on par and sometime more insightful than the IJ. Thank you for your efforts.
