Novato Dog Park Group Readies for Annual 'BarkFest'

Organizers are heralding the annual event this year's "America's Pup."

A Novato group working in support of a local dog park is readying for its annual “BarkFest,” an event heralded this year's “America's Pup.”

The fundraiser, which is co-sponsored by the city, benefits a nonprofit group that works to maintain and improve Dogbone Meadow, Novato's fenced dog park.

The event will feature dog contests, food vendors, a bake sale a raffle and a silent auction.

The owner of the dog judged “America's Pup” will receive a $50 prize and a trophy. Prizes will be awarded to other contestants, too.

The event will be held at Dogbone Meadow on Sept. 21 from noon to 4 p.m.

Novato Mayor Pat Eklund is expected to attend the event, organizers said.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the construction of a small dog area within Dogbone Meadow.

Raffle tickets can be purchased by contacting the Friends of Dogbone Meadow at (415) 827-0097, DOGBONEMEADOWS@AOL.COM or at the park on the day of the event.
