Naturalist-Led Hike Means Hidden Lake Won't Be Hidden Much Longer

Marin County Open Space Hike on Mount Burdell

Today's photos are of. One is of a frog in the lake and the other is a bird's eye view of the lake taken from the top of Mount Burdell. This hike is full of treasures to be explored with a Marin County Open Space naturalist from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Sunday. Meet at the San Andreas Drive trailhead at 10 a.m. and learn all about cold-weather critters along this trail. Bring a bag lunch and layered clothing. Call 507-2816 for more information.

Lamp Swap at Local Fire Stations

The Novato Fire District and the California Youth Energy Services are joining together to present a  from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday at Fire Station 61, 7025 Redwood Blvd., or Fire Station 64, 319 Enfrente Road. Bring in your old halogen lamps of 300 watts along with your PG&E bill to verify your residency and they will exchange yours for a new fluorescent lamp. Why this exchange? By swapping your fluorescent lamp for a halogen lamp, you are reducing your fire hazard and improving your energy efficiency. Questions? Contact Sandy Wargo at 877-2623.

Proposed Stafford Lake Bike Park Tour

Bike enthusiasts can ride over to  at 1:30 p.m., Saturday to tour the proposed location for the 14.1-acre "full spectrum" skills bike park. The tours will begin at 2 p.m. after participants have signed in and taken a survey. The tours will be led by the bike park consultants from Hillride and the Marin County Park planning staff. During the tour, park boundaries, access routes and items of interest will be discussed. There will be a Q&A period after the ride. No parking fee will be required for those persons attending the site visit. Better yet, if you pedal over, you don’t need to worry about parking. Stafford Lake is at 3549 Novato Blvd. a few miles west of San Marin High School.

“Reconfiguration" Reception at Art Museum

A reception for Marin Museum of Contemporary Art’s new exhibit, ”, will be held from 5-7 p.m., Saturday. “Reconfiguration” is a spring member exhibition and will showcase the unique artwork of the more than 100 artist members. See how artists the have applied reconfiguration to remodeled or restructured the expected into the unexpected. This is a juried exhibition and Star awards will be presented to artists.  is in the Novato Arts Center, 500 Palm Dr., Hamilton.

Marin School of the Arts Performance

 The Marin School of the Art’s Theatre Department presents  this weekend. The opening show is at 7 p.m. Friday in Novato High School’s Performing Arts Theatre, 625 Arthur St. The show runs at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday with 2 p.m. Sunday matinees for the next two weekends. Director Rodney Franz: “We have found wonderful literature and songs which explore the idea of dance as central to the human condition.” A limited number of tickets are available at the door. Cat Adoption Fees at the Marin Humane Society

The has reduced its cat adoption fees for adult cats until Jan. 30 because of an increase in the shelter cat and kitten populations. Sadly, 30 cats were surrendered the first week of January and 17 were brought in on one day. The shelter is open 10 a.m. -5 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays with extended hours on Wednesdays until 6:30 p.m. Stop by to view the adult cats in their new kitty condos and "bring home the love."
