Moms Talk Q&A: What Lesson of Love Can Be Taught on Valentine's Day?

As Feb. 14 rolls around, what are some ways we can teach children what love really means?

Moms Talk is a new weekly feature that is part of a new initiative on Patch sites to reach out to moms and families. We're inviting you and your circle of friends to help build a community of support for mothers and their families right here in our town.

Each week in Moms Talk Q&A, we're hoping our local experts and smart moms take your questions, give advice and share solutions. You can help brainstorm ideas on how to best serve families by adding comments to the bottom of this story.

This week, it’s particularly timely to be thinking about love. We’re surrounded by white, red and pink hearts. The kids get so excited about Valentine’s Day and their little handmade cards to each other. The gestures are so sweet. But eventually, love will become a much more serious thing in their lives.

The deep, genuine affection a young child has for another person usually is reserved for other family members or inanimate objects such as a teddy bear.
