When this tree falls, does anyone hear it or is the weather too inclement for trail users? Did the massive tree die of old age or of sudden oak death? The width and weight of the tree canopy has taken down trees in its way.
The Marin County Open Space will be very busy this winter manicuring the trails throughout Novato as there are many trees down across the trails.
These photos were taken on Mount Burdell, but I found more oak trees down on the Big Tree trail and Rush Creek trails.
When talking to an open space ranger, he mentioned a tree is more alive when it is dead than when it was alive. What do you think?
