Holiest Jewish Holiday of Year Starts at Sundown

What is Yom Kippur? Basically an opportunity for personal transformation. What does it mean to you? Share your thoughts and photos.

Yom Kippur starts at sundown Friday, and many Jewish families in Novato are scurrying to make preparations. Although there are no synagogues in Novato, that doesn't mean it'll be ignored here.

A rabbi in Hollywood wrote a nice piece for Hollywood Patch in which he describes the Jewish holidays "an annual opportunity to begin again, to believe that we can heal what has been broken and transform our lives for the better." and let us know how much the holiday means to you.

We'd have some photos associated with Yom Kippur here, but it would be much better if we had local shots, right? Anybody with a Patch login and password can upload their own favorite shots, so remember that as Yom Kippur begins tonight. You can also e-mail shots to the editor at brent.ainsworth@patch.com.

Best wishes from Novato Patch.
