Downtown Tree Lighting Brightens Holiday Season

Thousands stop by over the course of three-hour event Saturday on Sherman Avenue.

A few thousand people mingled and jingled — including Kris Kringle — at Novato's annual on Saturday night.

Sherman Avenue as blocked off between De Long and Grant avenues for the gathering, which overflowed to the the steped of , the grass of the Novato City Green and onto Grant. The holiday spirit was sparked by an appearance by Santa and his elves and a stellar lineup of local entertainment on stage. From Cub Scouts to professional musicians to the Love 2 Dance team, there was plenty of spirited stimulation for the little ones.

The only drawback was an emergency incident in which on De Long Avenue.

Randy Stemmer, president of the Downtown Novato Business Association, said the turnout was the best in event history. He thanked the countless volunteers for help with setup and take-down chores.
