Art is Key at Novato's Homeward Bound
Wandering becomes a learning opportunity outside the Next Key Center, a complex of 32 low-rent apartments in Hamilton for people in transition, including those who were previously living on the streets.
While wandering around and photographing Bay Area artist Mildred Howard's 11 bronze keys dancing across the beautiful grounds of Novato's , I paused read and reread an encouraging poem etched in the circular concrete base of a sculpture.
As I was digesting the written words, I was greeted by the very enthusiastic executive director, Mary Kay Sweeney. She is the author of the encouraging poem and was happy to answer questions and share stories about the successful programs at the Homeward Bound program for the homeless,and .
