Are You Sick of This Weather?

Expect a wet weekend in Novato. Sigh.

Come on, Mother Nature, give us a break. Did you fail to notice that we flipped over our calendar pages three days ago? It’s June!

The Bay Area is forecast an "unseasonably strong storm" over the next few days in the North Bay. It's mostly cloudy today with a chance of rain in the afternoon and highs in the mid- to upper 50s, according to the National Weather Service. Rain is expected tonight with winds up to 20 mph, and more rain is expected Saturday morning on Saturday, jeopardizing all sorts of outdoor weekend fun. (Many of the are indoors, and the Portuguese Holy Ghost Festa parade will happen rain or shine, organizers say).

By the time it blows over on Monday, the North Bay area should have been pummeled with about four inches of rain.

It’s gray and cool in my neighborhood today. Not only is there no sun, but people out and about are still in sweatshirts and windbreakers. We had some nice springtime weather a few weeks ago, but where did it go? We’re just a few weeks from the official start of summer, but it feels as if we’re stuck in February.

Who are we to complain, really? We’re not in the floodplains of the Mississippi River or the heart of Tornado Alley. Those poor people have had their lives torn apart by the spring weather. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and I remember what four distinct seasons were like. I saw funnel clouds in the distance every tornado season and had to sleep many nights in the basement.

We don’t really have that out here, but I don’t feel I have the right to complain. I always joke with my relatives back east about how expensive it is to live out here. I say we pay a tax that they don't have to pay — for awesome weather.

Yeah, well, I want my money back right about now.

What about you? Are you tired of this weather? Are you ready for some heat and piercing sunlight?
