And the Award Goes to ... Downtown Novato Theater

Oscar night at Trek Winery in Novato packs them in to raise funds for the long-closed movie house.

Emcee Rob Sundberg said it best Sunday night during an Oscar night fundraiser for the downtown Novato Theater.

More than 150 nattily dressed people wined & dined at Trek Winery as they watched the Academy Awards on big-screen TVs and cheered when their favorite stars and films were announced as winners. It was an event designed to raise funds for the renovation of the old movie house one block away at 922 Grant Ave.

Sundberg said future gala events would take place IN the theater rather than FOR the theater if such fundraisers push the campaign ahead. Organizers of the nonprofit seeking to fix up and reopen the theater are trying to raise at least $3 million for improvements and a year's worth of operating expenses before the dirty work gets started. You can donate to the cause at www.novatotheater.net.
