Two stages are better than one

The Novato Festival of Art, Wine & Music has a rich heritage of a star-studded music lineup at its annual event held in downtown Novato. This year promises some additional local flavor with the newly sponsored HopMonk Tavern Stage at Seventh Street, which will be filled with some of the same talent gracing the nightspots’ own stages.

The festival, set for the weekend of June 14 and 15, will include headliners Eric Martin, Crystal Bowersox, Volker Strifler Band, Megan Slankard, Afrolicious, The Deadlies and Lacy J. Dalton and the Dalton Gang.

Music is an all-day affair, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:30 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, with tunes echoing from both sides of Grant Avenue, since stages anchor both ends. The new HopMonk Tavern stage has been increased in size to the same dimensions as what used to be called the “main stage.” The same high-end sound system will also be found on both ends.

“Music has become such an important part of the festival that we just want to keep improving and expanding what is already a successful piece of the event,” said Coy Smith, chief executive officer of the Novato Chamber of Commerce, the organization that plans the festival. “All funds raised allow the chamber to keep Novato a healthy place to do business. “

Some of the other bands scheduled to play include: Jesse Brewster, Sol Horizon, E Minor& the Dirty Diamonds, James Harman, Jazz Mafia, Steep Ravine, Lumanation,CCB, One Grass Two Grass Red Grass Bluegrass, Stefanie Keys, Amy Wigton, Brittany Bexton, Frobeck, Keeley Valentino, and Steve Seskin & Sinclair.
