Sunrise Rotary Completes Service Project

Say goodbye to the starthistle invading the median on Redwood Blvd. between Lamont and the fire station.  Sunrise Rotary Club (novatosunriserotary.org  ) members spent the last four Saturday mornings removing and bagging plants and seeds.  City Public Works Islands Maintenance Division employees disposed of bags and spread wood chips over the area to inhibit future seed germination and add organic matter to the soil.  Starthistle is aggressive.  It cannot be controlled with one treatment or in one year.  It will be back, but so will we!  This project was done with advice from the Streetscape Maintenance Advisory Coalition (Streetscape link), cooperation from the Islands Maintenance Division (Islands link), and help from Novato’s own Greenboot Walkers Hiking Club (Greenboot link).  Thanks to all that helped out!

Now let’s party!  Buy tickets to the Oct. 5 Oktoberfest at novatosunriserotary.org.
