Novato High cheer teams capture first place

The Novato High varsity and junior varsity cheer and dance teams both won first place Sunday at the United Spirit Association Regionals competition at Sonoma State University.
As a result of their showings, the teams qualified for the USA Nationals competition in March in Anaheim.
“I am so proud of you,” head coach Patty Nave told the teams. “Congratulations. I’m looking forward to traveling with you.”
“Both teams worked very hard and brought their best to the floor,” said junior varsity coach Cathy Caliguire. “We are very proud of them.”
The 21-member Hornet varsity team competed in the Varsity Show Cheer Novice (Large/Super) Division. It bested teams from Santa Clara High, Benicia High, Moreau Catholic High in Hayward and Analy High in Sebastopol.
The 17-member Hornet junior varsity team performed in the JV Show Cheer Novice Division, and defeated teams from Analy, Carondelet High in Concord, Pioneer High in San Jose and Heritage High in Brentwood.
More than 100 teams, including 45 high school teams, competed in the all-day event.
