Dear Novato Community,

We are pleased to offer you an easy way to express your opinion on important City issues--from wherever you are! The City is launching an online community forum, "Open Novato," which will feature topics ranging from land use, to policy, to budget--and much more.

Our first topic will be to identify and prioritize study areas for our General Plan Update--which will help us as we develop our workplan for this important planning effort. The following topic will be selecting land uses for the North Redwood Corridor. Don't miss out on this opportunity to Get Involved, Get Heard, and Learn More.

We are listening!

This open input idea is way overdue considering last night at the Council meeting some citizens spoke and complained about the closed Council sessions happening later that night about plans for the land east of the railtracks that the City leases now to the Water District and Golden Gate Transit.
City of Novato August 22, 2013 at 05:06 PM
Roger--recap of closed session is on the city website:http://www.novato.org/Index.aspx?page=637&recordid=1522&returnURL=%2findex.aspx (note that the City does not own the parcels where the water district and ggt are located)

City-- Thanks for clarifying...partially. Who does own the land? Water District? Golden Gate Transit?
City of Novato August 23, 2013 at 04:29 PM
You bet. Yes, both agencies own the their respective parcels.

City, I see from Highway 101 that CalTrans is now constructing the extension of Redwood Blvd to Olompali Park. Will the Redwood extension end at the Park or continue north onto the overpass at the landfill?

What is happening with the proposed sports complex near Ammo Hill in the Hamilton area? Any recent movement?
City of Novato August 27, 2013 at 07:26 PM
Roger--the extension ends at the State Park. Staff believes that there will be a bike path from the Park to the San Antonio interchange. Michael--nothing has been submitted to date. If an application is submitted, we will start holding public workshops.

City--thanks for the answer. This Open Novato forum in the Patch really works. I am impressed. What is the status of the once-proposed development in Fireman's Fund's parking lot? Also, does the Hanna Ranch project have to legally redo their EIR if the owner doesn't start construction after 2 years from first approval? Also, can the walkway from the north Smart Station to town go through the train tunnel under San Marin so walkers can have a flat walk to town? I know there are some bums camping there now.

Roger--please feel free to e-mail me at publicinfo@novato.org, so I can directly respond to your inquiries as I get answers to each of them. Appreciate your interest (and time)!
Roger August 29, 2013 at 12:28 PM
City, I thought the idea of Open Novato was for all the public to see the questions asked and the City's answers. I notice not too many people have commented on the City's Open Novato website. Perhaps the City posting answers on the Patch would be more widely "open"?

Thank you for the latest on the sports complex.

City - Driving to Petaluma today, I noticed road work past Olompali Park and lots of activities there. Are you sure there will only be bike path to Petaluma? Also, once that's done, how easy it is for state to come in and change that to service road all the way through from Petaluma?
Roger September 12, 2013 at 01:07 PM
Sylvia, there will be lots of frontage road, but with some gaps. For example, a bike path only will connect the the landfill overpass with the State park. That is what I hear from the officials.
