The Novato Sanitary District Board of Directors voted unanimously to affirm the District’s intention to continue to comply with the Brown Act even though the State legislature voted to no longer reimburse local agencies for the costs of compliance. The District fully supports the goals of the Brown Act to provide transparent government decision-making.
The District was last reimbursed by the state for Brown Act compliance costs in May 2007 in the amount of $3,527 for fiscal year 2005-06 costs. The District has since requested reimbursement for the following but has not received reimbursement:
FY 2006/07 $3,383
FY 2007/08 $3,923
FY 2008/09 $4,027
FY 2009/10 $6,861
Based on this it is estimated that continued Brown Act compliance costs will be approximately $6,500 and that continued non-reimbursement of these expenses by the state will not significantly impact the District budget.
