Someone once said, "When you help others, you help yourself." We each can relate to that these days. You, like me, feel great accomplishment when we give a little of ourself to others — we give to our kids' schools, we coach teams, we donate our "spare" time important charitiable organizations, we donate money to great causes. I find my way to volunteer many hours at my daughter's schools, and for multiple nonprofit organizations, I give greatly to many charitble organizations, and even on occassion I volunteer to my university alumni groups.
But in three weeks, I will repeat a hugely important charity performance that benefits others greatly, and challenges my own core. I will be biking 320 miles from Eureka to San Francisco in Climate Ride 2012, in which more than 160 other dedicated individuals will work continue our efforts advocating for better alternative transportation, better and more sustainable energy policy and approaches and greater environmental awareness.
I am asking, even with all the wonderful charities around, for your consideration of a small donation to this cause (fully tax deductable, of course).
Through Climate Ride, I have chosen three tremendous beneficiaries to work for:
World Bicycle Relief, a group that is bringing economic, environmental, health, and education prosperity to underserved African communiities using nothing more than the bicycle
The Alliance for Bicycling and Walking, the group that works for all of us in making walking and bicycling a more realistic, safe, and sustainable transportation method)
The Marin County Bicycle Coalition, whom we have to thank for our tremendous cycling education trail, and safety program in Marin.
Crazy as it seems, I have stretched my goal in fundraising to $10,000! And with just a couple weeks left, my total raised and pledged for all three beneficiaries is over $7,200! No one in this event has raised $10,000 before, but I feel it can be done ... with your help. Any nominal donation will be greatly appreciated, and I will carry your name on my bike as I make this journey!
