North Bay Educational Foundation (NBEF) has selected Springboard Education to provide extended day after school programs for NBEF’s proposed new PreK – 8th grade Core Knowledge charter school in Novato. Founded in 1987, Springboard provides extended day programming and academic support to students in grades K-8. Dr. Brett Prilik, PhD and former teacher, principal and school administrator, and Executive Director of Springboard, will detail the Springboard After School program at a public meeting to be held September 13, from 6:30 – 8:30pm at the Best Western Novato Oaks Hotel (Oak Room). NBEF will also present an overview of the proposed charter school including a detailed look at the Core Knowledge curriculum and grade-by-grade curriculum sequence.
“Springboard After School is a natural extension of our proposed charter school’s Core Knowledge curriculum and is our first choice for after school programming,” said MJ Lonson, Board Member, NBEF. “Springboard’s vision is to reform education nationwide and bridge the increasing educational divide that exists between U.S students and their international peers so that all children have the resources and support needed for success. Springboard’s vision dovetails with that of NBEF, to provide equity in academic excellence to all students, enabling the individual to reach his or her greatest potential.”
“The Core Knowledge curriculum is broad and deep and provides students with the academic background and skills to succeed in college and beyond. Springboard uniquely supports what students learn in class by providing credentialed teachers to work with students in groups and individually while interfacing with classroom teachers to ensure children are fully understanding concepts and skills taught in class,” said Robert Verhoeff, Board Member, NBEF. “Equally important to academic support, students can benefit from enrichment electives in a wide range of subjects such as music, art, science, dance, band, theater, robotics, Spanish language and more.”
Pending charter petition approval and facilities compatibility, NBEF plans to enter into a formal memorandum of understanding with Springboard to provide after school programs for the inaugural school year. In order to open in August 2013, NBEF will submit its petition, including signatures with intent to register, to NUSD as early as September. Interested parents and community members are encouraged to learn about this innovative educational opportunity and get involved now.
This public meeting is open to any and all interested parents and members of the community. Childcare and Spanish language translation will be available. If possible, attendees are asked to email northbayedu@gmail.com with RSVP in the subject line, noting the number of children requiring childcare. For general attendance, RSVPs are requested for planning purposes only and are not required to attend. For childcare, RSVPs are required due to space restraints and in order to provide adequate supervision.
The meeting will be held Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Best Western Novato Oaks Hotel in the Oak Room. The hotel is located at 215 Alameda del Prado, behind Burger King and next to Wild Fox in Ignacio.
