High School mountain biking California State Championship Race at Stafford Lake May 19th

The NorCal and SoCal high school leagues will battle it out on a 5 mile mountain bike course that rolls through the hills behind Stafford Lake to determine the top riders and schools in the state.  There will be over 500 high school athletes from 50+ high schools with racers coming from as far south as San Diego and as far north as Humboldt racing at Stafford Lake that day.  For the past two years this race has been held near Santa Barbara and draws in thousands of spectators and supporters

Racing starts at 10:00 am with the girls categories with the final wave of Varsity and JV boys starting at 1:15.  Racers will complete between 2 to 5 laps depending on their race category.  Results will be determined at the end of the day and podium awards given to the top individual riders and teams.  Both Novato High and San Marin High will have racers on the course throughout the day.  Novato High’s best chance at a podium finish will be from Rachel Anderson who finished in 2nd place for the overall Girls JV category during the NorCal race series.  San Marin is expected to have top 10 finishes with Matthew Erbentraut in the Varsity category, Patrick Murphy and Ross Harrington in JV and Tyler Nam in the Sophomore category.  There are many other talented riders from both schools who will be on the course throughout the day

The team pits and start/finish line will be in the back parking lot area of Stafford Lake adjacent to where a bicycle progressive skills park will soon be built.  The race course will be partially on Marin County Parks land and partially on private property.  A huge thank you to the Grossi family for graciously offering the Grossi Dairy Ranch land to extend the race course!  Other than the weekend of the race, the County property is off limits to bicycles, so this is a one-time opportunity to ride the course.

Come on out and see what high school mountain bike racing is all about.  There will be many family, friends and race fans in attendance as it is possible to walk the entire course and find great spots to view and cheer on the racers.  For more information on the NorCal High School Mountain Bike League, the race, course specifics and start times please visit the NorCal website at http://www.norcalmtb.org
