The City of Novato is pleased to announce that the first phase of construction on the new Civic Center Administrative Office project will begin later this month. The City has scheduled the official groundbreaking ceremony at the new facility site for July 17th at 5:30 P.M.
On July 5th, the City Council approved a construction bid, paving the way for the City to commence the long-awaited construction of the new City Offices. The project, located at 922 Machin Avenue, consists of a brand new, approximately 23,000 square foot office building to replace the City’s current leased office space at 75 Rowland Way. Construction is scheduled to be completed in August 2013 with City staff moving into the building the following month.
The two story building, with partial underground parking, can house approximately 70 City employees and includes Central Administration, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Community Development, and public and building support areas. The foundation system will include drilled piles and grade beams with a partially below-grade parking level. The main vertical and horizontal building structure will be steel moment frame. Exterior finish materials will include high performance glazing systems and unitized exterior cladding. Anticipated site improvements will include a plaza with pavers adjacent to the City Hall Green, including pervious treatments at parking and circulation areas to reduce groundwater runoff and a landscaped area incorporating native species and reduced irrigation demand. The building is designed with sustainability and “green” building principles.
The Sacramento based firm of Kitchell has provided project management services during the planning and design phases, and will providing full, on-site construction management services during the construction phase. The San Francisco Firm of RMW Architects and Interiors is the project architect and the San Leandro based firm of Sausal Corporation is the general contractor.
