Don't worry, Novato Babe Ruth will begin registration for the Spring Season January 2. Why so late since Little League registration has been open for a while? Babe Ruth baseball includes high school players, but they can not begin to play with their Babe Ruth teams until their High School season is over, so we begin our Regular Season in Mid May. In the mean time, we begin registration in January, have our tryouts for new players Saturday March 9, and conduct our "Pre-Season" program with practices and games for those new and returning players not involved with High School baseball which takes the kids up to mid May, and the start of the regular season.
The pre-season program is especially important for new players coming up from Little League, as the focus is on fundamentals and skills training. Waiting until March to begin practices and baseball games also gives the prospect of warmer, dryer weather.
Players should begin to throw the ball around and improve their conditioning, and parents should be checking baseball gear as the kids do grow quickly. It's no fun breaking in new cleats during a game!
