San Quentin Correction Officers Take Away Toys From Visiting Children

Since 1998, the Vietnam Veterans’ Group of San Quentin has donated toys to children of inmates after their visits. 

But this year, the annual tradition hit a snag when corrections officers told families only two toys were allowed per child and took some of the just gifted items back, the Marin Independent Journal is reporting.

The move prompted anger from inmates’ families, who said they were never notified of this new rule, according to the IJ. In previous year, children there were no restrictions on how many gifts children could get.

A spokesman for San Quentin said the two-toy rule was put in place to make sure the prison had enough toys to last through Christmas.
