We have all heard the statement, “Diets don’t work”.
Have you lost weight and then gained it all back plus a few more pounds?
We return to dieting like returning to the place on the sidewalk where you saw someone find a $20 bill and we think, “Maybe I will be lucky this time.”
Diets aren’t a solution or even a short cut, they are a dead-end. Wrongly, we end up blaming ourselves and doubting our willpower rather than questioning the path we continue to follow. Circular paths are like circular thoughts; they lead us to the same place…no where...and with a diet, it is no vacation.
So how do you begin to lose weight and body fat?
You start by pausing.
Look at your relationship with food, your life, and yourself. Work, kids, and personal history shape adult lives, often at a cost. Over time the pace of the day is altered by demanding circumstances and a sense of urgency. Unaware, we develop daily patterns, a responsiveness to everything and responsibility to everyone but ourselves.
We say….
I am too busy
I am exhausted
I already do too much… now I have to cook?
The question then is what is gained by slowing down?
Could you have a more peaceful life, a healthier diet, and feel better about yourself with a pause?

You could further research food that's the body can readily digest. Minestrone has beans, Quinoa is a grain and I would assume that apple crisp has sugar and wheat - all of these add to our obesity and food intollerance epidemic. A little scientific research and you could do a far greater service to our communitie's over weight and unhealthy people.

Thank you Kim, for bringing this very real problem up.
It is a very interesting and relevant comment but one that deserves an article and a cooking show unto itself. I chose to start with the “middle way” which for many is a Big Step!
Now my question is…why do you think people eat the way they do? Why are they making the choices in the first place?
America’s diet of prepared foods seems to start with pasta and is chased with sugary corn syrups found in soda leading them deeper and deeper into obesity and inflammatory health issues.
Why? Anyone know or want to speculate?
