“Did you hear about the home invasion?" Arriving for my once-a-week free exercise “Bootcamp” near the Hamilton pool, I was wondering as always if I would humiliate myself in front of my very fit and younger neighbors.
Home invasion? This is Novato, this is my safe cozy Hamilton neighborhood where we easily recognize strangers. How could we have a home invasion here, a block from my house? Two masked robbers knocked on a neighbor’s door before 6 a.m. on a Saturday, burst into the home and held the teenager who answered the door captive.
Well obviously the invaders were amateurs … they were young, they had no visible weapon and they fled when they saw how many people were in the house. But the family experienced a terrifying event. They will no longer feel safe in their home. The police came and took fingerprints. When I called Sargent John McCarthy of the Novato PD he said they have an “active investigation.”
Perhaps security cameras could keep us safer? Save police time? Make investigations cheaper and more effective? Like Tiburon we only have two routes into Hamilton. And we have only two one or two streets into each Hamilton neighborhood. Anyone driving into Hamilton to commit a crime would know they were on tape. For a home invasion at 5:30 a.m. the police could check the tapes to see the robbers arrive and leave.

I like the idea of security cameras that would be protected from vandals.
This is why many people in Novato are donating to the "Pennies for Police Dogs" Campaign. We are concerned about the crime in Novato. Novato needs an additional police dog. We are the only city in Marin that has police dogs and we share with our dogs with other Marin neighbors.

Why stop at security cameras? Time to put up a gate and booth, with a guard to check IDs.

Buzz: To talk excitedly or incessantly, esp. in low tones.
To gossip.
To be filled with noisy activity or talk.
"Buzzing" just doesn't seem to be the fitting description for what people should be doing with news like this.

Hi Henry,
I did not use the work "buzz" in my blog. That title was contributed by a Patch Editor. I agree its silly.

I say we shoot first, then ask questions! But on another note I also want to thank our meek
City Manager and City Council menbers, SUNN and we can't forget about our very own Judy Arnold - It's all about getting relected. What a disgrace to Novato!

What's with the Stepford wives' duplicated response? Sally-Monica-look over the hill at the low income housing if you want to see where it came from.

I don't think the kind of stereotyping, jump to conclusions, and 'profiling' embodied in some of these comments either befits us or benefits us as a community.
A couple of years ago, the Novato neighborhood I live in has a rash of garage and car breakins and theft. The culprits turned out to be some teens from some fairly upper income housholds, out on 'mischief'. This may not be something similar. But let's remember, making less money should not be a reason to be stigmatized, singled out and treated as "less than" in our community.

"Less than" people have the motive and the time.

but stereotyping, stigmatizing and having a general disdain for those with less money (especially if they have a darker skin tone) IS the Novato way! at least, thats the way it seems these days.

Once again, I'm not against low income. I'm against NO income. I don't care about skin, just behavior.

There's evidence to back up the concerns. We have no control what race or color a criminal is. Don't call it racism!

In this case the home invaders were...young men..(does that surprise you?). One was reported as white and the other as black.
The facts don't always match our stereotypes. Remember the gang shooting in the Safeway parking lot? I thought it was funny that the getaway car was a... Prius! Gave me a whole new view of Prius drivers

Security cameras sound like a great idea. I'm all for it.
