Woman Chases Down Purse Snatcher

The following information from Feb. 8-12 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Feb. 11

7:15 p.m. – A robbery was reported at the Shell gas station in the 7400 block of Redwood Boulevard.  A woman saw a man steal her purse from her vehicle.  She described him as black, about six feet tall, large build, and he was last seen wearing green and blue flannel pants.  She did not know if the man had a weapon.  The woman chased after the man who then struck her and threatened to kill her.  The victim was able to get her purse back.  The man was last seen running towards McDonalds.  There was no loss.

Feb. 8 

1:43 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 1300 block of Monte Maria Avenue.  The reporting party said that his neighbor’s red two-door Honda had its driver’s side window smashed.  The reporting party did not see anyone around the vehicle. 

8:40 a.m. – A stolen vehicle was reported in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive.  Unknown(s) took a black 1991 Honda Accord overnight. 

11:04 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 100 block of Bolling Court after a 13-year-old boy damaged a bedroom screen door trying to get back into his house after his sister locked him out.  The boy’s sister said the boy was banging on the door and threatening their mother.  The mother had locked herself in her car outside.  There were no weapons involved however the boy is on probation for possession of a knife. 

11:16 a.m. – Two homeless encampments were reported in the vicinity of Golden Gate Place and Redwood Boulevard.  One person was contacted who had a trespass letter on file.  The person was cited on suspicion of trespassing and littering and was advised to relocate. 

1:31 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported at Sinaloa Middle School after a fight ensued between three girls.  Two girls were in the school office and the other went home.  A 14-year-old was cited on suspicion of battery and released to her mother. 

4:10 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 1600 block of Hill Road.  A landlord reporting for Spanish-speaking tenants said that two girls were followed on their way home from Sinaloa Middle School yesterday.  At about 3:15 p.m., the girls saw a white or Hispanic man possibly masturbating in an older white model Honda style vehicle as they walked down Tamalpais Avenue toward Hill Road.  The girls can possibly identify the man from Megan’s Law website.  The investigation is ongoing at this time. 

4:44 p.m. – A burglary was reported at the Target store on Vintage Way.  A kid cut a Play Station 3 controller off its pay hook.  He was described as a Hispanic or white, about 17-years-old, and he was last seen wearing a green cap with orange trim.  The rest of his clothing was all gray.  He was a passenger in a vehicle of which information was provided.  The loss was about $55. 

4:47 p.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 500 block of Loleta Lane.  Unknown(s) took a laptop from an unlocked vehicle.  The loss is approximately $2300. 

6:33 p.m. – A bike was reported stolen from the bed of a white Toyota Tundra while it was parked near a Subway sandwich shop in the 900 block of Diablo Avenue.  The bike was a black Specialized mountain bike.  The loss is about $1500. 

6:35 p.m. – A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in the vicinity of Shady Lane and Simmons Lane.  He was booked into Marin County Jail. 

Feb. 9 

3:28 a.m. – A petty theft was reported on Regent Court.  Officer(s) made an attempt to contact a resident there whose wallet, I.D. and credit cards turned up in a burglary suspect’s vehicle.  It was determined that the items were taken from the victim’s unlocked vehicle and were recovered by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. 

4:04 a.m. – A petty theft was reported in the 1700 block of Hill Road.  A silver 16gb iPod Nano was stolen from an unlocked vehicle.  The theft may be related to an earlier Marin County Sheriff’s Office case. 

8:56 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 500 block of Bolling Circle.  The reporting party said her vehicle was broken into sometime between 9:30 p.m. last night and this morning.  The rear window was smashed and the rear hatch was damaged.  Nothing appears to have been taken at this time. 

9:54 a.m. – A burglary was reported on Silver Maple Place.  The reporting party said that his vehicle was broken into overnight.  The doors were locked but he found them open this morning and items had been moved around the interior of his truck.  He said this has happened three times in the last two seeks.  Extra patrols will be made in the area. 

10:03 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 100 block of Drakewood Place.  Unknown(s) broke into a locked vehicle overnight and took a backpack.  The reporting party said that his father’s vehicle had been broken into as well.  

12:49 p.m. – A petty theft was reported in the 1300 block of Grant Avenue.  Unknown(s) entered an unlocked white GMC van and stole a GPS and a radar detector. 

2:25 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at Novato High School after people were seen throwing eggs at multiple vehicles.  License plate information was provided.  Another unrelated report was made about unknown(s) that may have been placing nails on the ground in the parking lot. 

4:38 p.m. – Domestic violence was reported on Fallen Leaf Way.  A woman said that her 46-year-old boyfriend punched and pushed her and then left the area.  The man was arrested and booked on suspicion of domestic violence, making criminal threats, and an outstanding felony warrant. 

7:44 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Trinity Drive.  The reporting party said her car had been broken into in front of her workplace.  The point of entry was the front passenger side window.  Her purse was taken. 

8:29 p.m. – An aggravated assault was reported on Margarita Terrace.  A woman said that she had driven her friend to retrieve property from her ex-boyfriend.  While there the man reportedly took the ex-girlfriend’s phone and threw it in the water and pushed her.  The ex-girlfriend was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence on a co-habitant and was transported to the Marin County Jail and released. 

11:43 p.m. – Weapon brandishing was reported on Oak Crest Court.  A man produced a black firearm during an argument with people at a residence there.  The man is the boyfriend of the homeowner’s daughter.  The daughter and boyfriend fled the scene in the mother’s vehicle, which she has declined to report stolen. 

Feb. 10 

9:20 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the vicinity of Landing Court and Redwood Boulevard.  Unknown(s) broke into a storage unit and took three or four paintings of unknown value. 

11:26 a.m. – An assault and battery was reported at the Shell gas station in the 7400 block of Redwood Boulevard.  A man allegedly punched an employee and left the store on foot heading towards Grant Street.  He was described at black, and was last seen wearing a blue sweater and jeans.  The man was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of battery. 

2:05 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Topaz Drive.  The reporting party noticed jewelry missing from her home.  The theft possibly occurred sometime during the last two months.  The loss is estimated at $1800. 

9:19 p.m. – A person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in the 1700 block of Grant Avenue.  The driver was booked into Marin County Jail. 

9:51 p.m. – A physical fight was reported in the vicinity of Third Street and Vallejo Avenue.  The reporting party said that a black woman wearing all black came up to his daughter and started attacking her.  The parties were contacted, all of which declined to talk with officer(s). 

11:35 p.m. – A driver stopped for vehicle code violations on southbound Highway 101 at Ignacio Boulevard was cited and released on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, expired vehicle registration, and no proof of financial responsibility.  The vehicle was also impounded. 

Feb. 11 

2:53 a.m. – Shoplifting was reported at the Safeway store on Diablo Avenue.  A white man about 30-years-old was seen putting a bottle of brandy into his jacket while in the liquor aisle.  The man was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of shoplifting. 

8:18 a.m. – A health and safety violation was reported in the 800 block of Hayden Avenue.  Fire and smoke were reported coming from a garage at a residence.  Two were arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession and handed over to the Marin County Major Crimes Task Force. 

11:10 a.m. – A stolen vehicle was reported in the 1100 block of Leafwood Drive.  A blue 1992 four door Honda Accord was stolen overnight.  All keys were accounted for. 

11:37 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 100 block of Hamilton Drive.  Unknown(s) broke into a steel storage building at a PG&E substation and took construction tools and copper ground wire.  The loss is approximately $3400. 

1:30 p.m. – Advice was provided to a citizen on Atherton Avenue who recently had his truck and toolbox stolen.  The victim believes that his toolbox is being sold on Craigslist.  San Pablo PD was asked to contact the seller to determine if the seller has stolen property. 

4:25 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported at McDonalds on Redwood Boulevard.  The manager said a black woman wearing a purple and blue sweater grabbed his head set off his head causing scratches.  The reporting party requested to press charges.  The woman was cited on suspicion of battery and was released.  There were no visible injuries and no medical attention was needed.  Photos were taken. 

6:36 p.m. – A vehicle stolen in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive was recovered by the CHP in Oakland. 

11:23 p.m. – A driver stopped for a vehicle code violation in the 1000 block of Fifth Street was cited and released on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.  The driver’s vehicle was impounded. 

Feb. 12 

2:44 a.m. – Domestic violence was reported in the 1000 block of Second Street.  One person was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of injury to a co-habitant.  An emergency protection order was refused. 

11:56 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 100 block of Los Robles Road.  Unknown(s) damaged the reporting party’s parked silver Toyota Tundra overnight.  It appears a sharp object was used to key the sides and rear of the victim’s vehicle.  The damage is estimated at $1000. 

2:05 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the vicinity of westbound Highway 37 and Hanna Ranch Road.  A purse was taken from a locked silver BMW.  

6:13 p.m. – A welfare check was requested for a customer at Sam’s Place on South Novato Boulevard.  Another customer witnessed a white man about 50-years-old yelling at a waitress.  The reporting party said the waitress looked scared and the man was sitting alone at the counter.  The man was contacted who apparently had a sudden verbal outburst due to his “learning disability.”  No further assistance was needed.
