Source of Loud Boom Continues to be Mysterious
Residents in westside neighborhoods reported explosion Saturday night, but police found nothing.
A loud boom that shocked residents in a section of Novato's west side Saturday night prompted about nine calls to the police, but nothing could be found as the source, police said Sunday.
Calls came in at 8:50 p.m. and two officers responded to neighborhoods around Simmons Lane and Novato Boulevard, not far from Pioneer Park and The Square shopping center. Lt. Dave Jeffries said police received "eight or nine calls in the first two or three minutes after that, but we were not able to locate a source."
Jeffries said sometimes the wider the spread of the phone calls the harder it is for responders to pinpoint its location. He said there would have been calls about a power outage had an electrical transformer blown.

We live off of Center between Wilson and McClay, and hear those booms more frequently than you might imagine. They seem to happen in the evenings, and we'd love to find out what the heck they are! They do sound like they're coming from the direction of the Square/Pioneer Park.

We live by Pioneer Park and hear them frequently as well, I'd say every couple of months or so and always at night.

I live behind Novato Square (the as-good-as-abondoned shopping center). The flash preceded the explosion by about 2 seconds and the flash was scattered in the clouds. This, I think, means it was some distance from me.
Yes, someone knows something, but if it was people goofing around, they are just enjoying the discussion! PG&E would know if it was a transformer and would report it if asked.

When you say behind the square are you saying south of the square like Sierra Vista or Buena vista Streets ? or across the street from the shell station which would be north ? Which would be pico vista You are also saying you saw a flash could you please further us more on this flash as i have a thought where this is cumming from.

This is interesting. Had the same occurrence last month around Atlanta, Ga., and before that around Columbus, Ga. Although the latter was not reported from what I was able to find. Matter of fact, I found no reports in media, only what myself and others experienced.
Still no explanation that I can find.

My wife and I witnessed a single firework at roughly 8pm several nights ago in the Bell Marin Keys area. I then heard what sounded like a single gunshot or firework or some sort of percussion explosion the very next night at roughly the same time and in the same vicinity.

Saturday morning 3.35 a m 400 block of San Marin Drive a loud pitch in the air and someone called the police. I went to a window and could hear it. The police ended up at the callers house and a house up the street. Something is going on with these loud bangs people are hearing and now more than one person hears this very loud so called pitch early in the morning . More to follow !!

If you hear a single gunshot out in Bel Marin Keys, as Mike did, it could be a hunter taking a shot at a deer in the nearby marshlands. It's legal out there.

You may want to look into a person holding a pyro tech lis. living in the area. These same events happened months ago around the center rd /sanford ct area These are not your every day M-80's or lesser devices.

I live near where these sounds are coming from also and a cop showed up at our house to question us claiming someone pointed the finger at us. I have lived here for about 6 months and heard this particular incident and on Halloween and several other occasions. I want to know who these idiots are that are causing me to be questioned by the cops and nearly have a heart attack. How can they not figure out who it is? It's insanely loud and lights up the sky. UGH.

I heard from two people on facebook last night that there were two loud booms again. One near Center and the other near Sutro and Vineyard. Anybody else hear it. It was compared to a pipe bomb, fireworks or a bazooka.

My husband claims they sound similar to M-80's and have heard them mainly during holidays, but increasingly just out of the blue now... This one really shook me last night when I heard it, so I'm glad to know people are talking about it. I agree with one poster stating that they can't believe they can't figure out who it is --If I'M jumping from it, wouldn't the neighbors next door to this have something to say??

There goes another one, 5minutes ago at about 11:40pm at the vicinity of Center and McClay, preceded by a bright, white flash in the air.
