Plane Slides Off Runway at San Rafael Airport

Pilot, 56, was landing his low-wing military trainer at the airport after flying from Petaluma.

 

A 56-year-old San Francisco man wasn’t injured Friday afternoon after his small plane slid off the runway while landing at the San Rafael airport. 

The man and a female passenger were returning from a flight to Petaluma.

The San Rafael Police received a call at 2:35 p.m. that a plane was down on the runway, according to San Rafael Police Spokesperson Margo Rohrbacher.

The plane, a low-wing military trainer, had landed and traveled one-tenth of a mile down the runway before it veered to the side, Rohrbacher said.

The San Rafael Police responded to the scene and have contacted the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board, who will take over the investigation of the crash, she said.

The man stores his plane at the San Rafael Airport, according to Rohrbacher.

No one was injured in the incident and there were no fires reported, Rohrbacher said.
