A woman's call to Novato police to report that her boyfriend had allegedly assaulted her resulted in the dispatch of the Special Response Team when a check revealed that the subject was wanted on possible parole violation.

Wednesday, the woman reported that her boyfriend, Daryk Souza, had allegedly assaulted her and threatened to kill her, according to a media release from Sgt. Keith Heiden. 

She was not injured as a result of the assault but had reported to Novato dispatch that Souza had mentioned that he had a gun, and she believed he would fight, if contacted by police officers.

A records check revealed that the suspect was on parole with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and was wanted on a parole violation. 

Novato police attempted to contact Souza at his home by telephone and cell phone, as well as by direct verbal communication. Souza did not respond.  However, evidence suggested he was inside the residence, according to Heiden.

Novato's Special Response Team was requested and responded to the scene. Team members made verbal contact with Souza after over one hour of attempting to do so.  Souza eventually surrendered and was taken into custody at 11 p.m.  

He was booked at the Marin County Jail on suspicion of two felonies, threatening with intent to terrorize and parole violation and on suspicion of a midemeanor count of battery on a cohabitant.
