Novato Candidates Beginning to File for Spots on November Ballot
Deadline for nominations is Aug. 12, but extensions will be made in any races in which incumbents have chosen not to run.
Election season is under way for several governing bodies in Novato, and we’re in the final week of the nominations period for those throwing hats into rings.
The deadline is Aug. 12 for candidates to take out papers and file declarations of candidacy and statements of qualifications. There is a five-day extension if incumbents do not file nominations by the deadline.
In the case of the Novato City Council Race, the filing period was extended to August 17 because of Carole Dillon-Knutson's annoucement that she will not run again. The city's registrar will not post any candidate names until August 18 because no one is officially certified as a candidate until after the filing period closes.
The Marin County Registrar of Voters plans to release a list of official candidates at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 17 for the Nov. 8 election. The last day for write-in candidates to obtain and file nomination papers is Oct. 25.
In the Novato City Council race, three seats are up for grabs — those held by incumbents Carole Dillon-Knutson, Madeline Kellner and Jeanne MacLeamy. Dillon-Knutson, who has served on the body for 16 years, announced last month that she will not run again. Five others — Jerome Ghigliotti, Manny Fernandez, Eric Lucan, Leslie Peterson Schwarze and Eleanor Sluis — have indicated they will challenge for the seats.
As of Friday, Aug. 5, here is the rundown of people who had filed to participate in Novato-area elections.

Vote for Jerry Peters for Novato Sanitary District Board Member. Jerry has been an active participant in Novato life for many years. He is logical and his background qualifies him well to make the decisions that will be required of a District Board Member. Additional details will follow as Jerry's Campaign gets under way.
