Discriminating Foodie Nabbed at Costco

Gourmet shoplifter now faces grand theft charges.

Yet another "only in Marin" story.  On Monday, a 40-year-old Novato woman was arrested at Costco at the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center in Novato for shoplifting $460 in Italian white truffles.

Loss prevention employees spotted her in the store, stuffing items into her purse.  The woman was followed out of the store, having not displayed any intention to stop and pay for the items at the registers.

She was apprehended without incident and later booked into the Marin County Jail by Novato PD.

In addition to the truffles, she also had some steak, shrimp and blueberries in her purse bringing her attempted gourmet haul to about $495.  She now faces charges of grand theft.

Those things were $1800/pound. I would not have bet there would have been a market for then. Still, at least they were not packaged in a 24-pack.

At least she has good taste. Costco has some really good food available. She could have been caught at one of our lesser markets.

I just uploaded a new photo of the Italian white truffles at Costco. They are right next to the shrimp, above the Costco pre-made pizza.
