SAN MARIN HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ CHOIR RECEIVES UNANIMOUS SUPERIOR RATINGS AT TWO FESTIVALS

On January 28th San Marin’s jazz choir, a part of the
SMHS smARTt program, went to the Folsom Jazz Festival and spent the day listening to many other jazz choirs and singing their set. They received a  Unanimous Superior rating (top ratings from all 3 judges) and received several
solos awards. The solo awards were given to Nina Kao, Sarah Marthinsen, Mel Hart, Chloe Gasparini and Corrin Dove.

On February 4, San Marin Music hosted the Vocal Jazz Festival for the California Music Educators’ Association. Several jazz choirs from San Jose, as well as groups from Calistoga and San Rafael came to the festival. Again San
Marin’s Jazz Choir received Unanimous superior ratings. They also received high praise from the judges for hosting a “seamless, well-run” day.

Jazz ‘n Java will be the next performance by the Jazz Choir on Thursday February 16th at 7:00 in the San Marin Student Center. Jazz Band, Concert Choir, and Percussion Ensemble will also be featured in this concert. Tickets are available in advance at the SMHS office for $3 and will be
$5 at the door. Your ticket will include not only an evening of vocal and instrumental jazz but also a cup of java and homemade biscotti.
